MOSTLY HEARD RARELY SEEN 8-BIT F/W 2023. The niche for niches; the collection for collections, there’s something for everyone. The preservation and celebration of pop culture phenomena are at the heart of 8-BIT, and F/W23 is no exception. Through the appropriation of iconic imagery translated into our language of blocks, we celebrate the things that caught the world by storm. Continuing our historical recording of hype, F/W23 presents more variations to our sneakerhead collection as well as an introduction to a highly sought after series of modern collectible bear sculptures. After such a great success of the first set of album covers, we were inspired to find more sought out albums and expand into new genres of music. We included techno, old school hip hop, classic rock and rap.
This season was an exploration of age; appealing to kids, adults, and everyone in between. We played with memes to entertain the younger generation and the “tech kid’ that enjoys image-based circumstantial comedy. While we are known for our bright colored body bases and loud graphics, we took a mature turn when it came to our use of french terry as well even a new X-Rated capsule. Aimed at adults, our use of some of the most iconic adult magazine covers pays homage to the cultural taboos associated with this material, reminding them of their teenage years and the nostalgia of times past. The backside of these garments plays on the end credits of an adult video by branding and making it comical. The use of only black hoodies and white tees was inspired by the success of our clean portrayal of the Classic Movies capsule in SS23, allowing the graphics to speak for themselves under a single spotlight in a dark theater.
This season we’ve added to our arsenal of framing techniques for our appliques through the use of a new colored hand stitch detailing found trickling through the top 3 sought out capsules alongside the continued, although more reserved, use of hand painted accents. Another stitching detail was the exposed flat lock seams stitching - some tonal, some in multicolor and some as a singular pop color detail. This season also experiments with cut in half hoodies, an evolution from our cut in half tees from F/W22 mascot capsule.
