HACULLA S/S 2022. The last year is arguably the most challenging times of our generation. From political unrest to lockdowns in a global pandemic, life as we know it has taken a drastic change for everyone. Amidst the madness, "Haculla" was invited to its first retrospective show at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, a dream and accomplishment over 30 years in the making. This triumphant time comes to a an abrupt pause as Harif loses his best friend Flip, leaving him in despair amidst the success. With a heavy heart, Haculla S/S 2022 is inspired by the concept of "life after death"and the desires of "eternity." With no appeal to religious faith, divine revelation or sacred texts, Haculla explores the concept of “the after.” Life after death can give depth and significance to many people in a path to happiness and reason for hope. Key phrases of this collection are “here today gone tmr,” “don’t try,” “blowing up, growing up,” “arms full of tats, body full of scars” and "don't grow up too fast." Visually there is a focus on the consistent color story of red, black and white in reference to the theory that they are the colors of shadow, light and life. The connection of "sleeping" brings about a new take on the classic silk/viscose "Pajama Shirt" paired with Pajama "Basketball Shorts." Additional callouts include a artisanal "Spray Paint" dying technique used on French Terry hoodies, crewnecks, and shorts; and a new method of hand embroidery mixed techniques to highlight the iconic phrases in the collection.
