HACULLA F/W 2022. After the most challenging year of our generation, we were all faced with yet another year of uncertainty. The economy crashed and still has not recovered from the disasters of 2020. The highest rate of unemployment continues to climb due to people's lack of drive to work. Many individuals are continuing to struggle handling the mental and emotional issues created during these hard times. Through all the misfortunes of these past couple of years, Haculla found inspiration in past industrial work environments and attire, as well as embracing nostalgia of the origin of the brand. Key phrases of this collection are “it literally stares back at me,” “addicted to pain” “call your dealer” and “not so fast.” Visually there is a focus on the consistent color story of black, white, camel and a new use of color ultramarine blue. Haculla was inspired to use this significant new color in our latest season after Harif attended and participated in the 2021 Art Basel show in Miami Beach, Florida. The color blue appeared in many of his paintings when inspired by the views of the ocean and the low morale of society over the year of 2021. The connection of trying to get people back to work and moving after a year of unsettling loss and failure brings a new take on woven shirts and hoodies paired with vintage storefront signs. We also created 48 individual and unique Haculla branded enamel pins that depict new and old Haculla artworks to correlate back to the working man attire and punk rock grunge influence. Additional callouts include a newly implemented hand-painting technique of several of Harif’s paintings from his exclusive limited time Harif Guzman x Black Gallery exhibition in Belgium implemented on oversized hoodies and distressed t-shirts. A new rendition of “Haculla” was created and implemented in different techniques: toothbrush embroidery, direct embroidery, felt patch, sweater yarn embroidery and 3D embroidery across a multitude of garments throughout the collection.
